Lost Raiders - Application
Name: Cloud Strife
Canon: Final Fantasy VII
Personality:
Cloud is an introvert who has convinced himself of otherwise by having tried to implement the most desirable aspects of one of his closest friend's personality's (Zack Fair) into his own mannerisms. He makes a huge effort to appear both cool and independent, particularly at the start of the game when he's almost hostile in some of his interactions. Comments like "I don't care about either Shinra or SOLDIER!" and "But don't get me wrong! I don't care about AVALANCHE or the Planet for that matter!" as well as demanding money for his services at inopportune moments highlight these aggressive tendencies. However, as the story progresses and the player sees less of this bravado and more of Cloud's real personality.
Cloud is kind, loyal and values those he cares for above all else. He has sacrificed himself on numerous occasions for those he loves, he listens to their problems and makes a conscious effort to support them. An example of this is when Aerith confides in Cloud at Cosmo Canyon, Cloud reassures her that he will be there for her despite the isolation she feels. Yet, due to his own self-doubt he rarely considers himself a 'good friend'.
On top of his insecurities, Cloud deals with 'episodes' akin to fits where he falls onto his knees, grabs his head and starts thrashing about often mumbling incoherently. It's insinuated that during these fits Cloud is having disturbing flashbacks or hearing voices. The most extreme occurrences of this was when he attacked Aerith or when he handed over the Black Materia to Sephiroth. The trauma Cloud faced in his youth of having his hometown destroyed, being subjected to genetic experimentation and witnessing Zack die has left him deeply scarred. Add to this Aerith's death, which he perpetually blames himself for, and there's a lot of emotional baggage there.
An element of Cloud's personality that is often overlooked is his wit and sense of humour. There are several occasions in the game where Cloud makes amusing asides about some of his companion's actions or appearances that are genuinely funny. Referring to Barret as "a bear wearing a marshmallow" to coax a reaction out of him or teasing Aerith about joining SOLDIER on their first second meeting. Cloud can be sarcastic and shows a dry wit that hints at a keen mind and intelligence. He doesn't seem to have a filter in regards to his comments, often blurting out things which can range from blatantly obvious to poignant to funny. It's revealed later in the game that his companions actually like this aspect of his personality as they feel this "makes Cloud, Cloud".
Sample Objectives: 1. Confiding in others - while he can quite easily make friends Cloud has problems being honest and open with people (and himself). Revealing hidden truths should lead to building actual, functional relationships and making him a happier and more balanced man.
2. BDSM - because a shift of power in either direction will not only be extremely hot but will result in more confusion which is just delightful to play with with Cloud.More head-grabbing and thrashing around.
3. Mental breakdown(s) - it wouldn't be Cloud if I got a few of these in. I really want to push him to his limit, especially considering the mid-game canon point I want to take him from. Memory loss, delusions, fainting and much more!
Sample: Here, Here, Here and Here
Sample Game Mechanic: I really want Cloud to enter into a contract, by force, as a slave and for him to initially hate it but eventually bond with his Master.
